What is Included:

  • 4 writing prompt pages for easy differentiation
  • Have/are chart and cards for students and for the pocket chart
  • 2 thinking maps

This resource is differentiated to help students on various levels be successful in writing a non-fiction passage. The chart or thinking map used will depend on the level of the students in the class.

How to Use:

The have/are chart is a great way to get students started on thinking about different characteristics of acorns. The accompanying pocket chart cards can be used to show students how to complete their own mats or can be used as a whole group instructional tool.

The thinking maps can be used with students who need less guidance and can think of, write, or draw their own descriptors for the acorn. Students will write adjectives or draw pictures to fill in these thinking maps.

The writing pages are differentiated for students who need no help with starting sentences and for students who need the writing prompt to being their sentences.

When to Use:

  • Writing Center
  • Whole Group Writing Activity
  • Small Group Writing Activity

This guided writing activity is a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. It is also helpful to have acorns available for students to look at, touch, and explore as they fill in their thinking maps.
