Apple Counting Emergent Reader
Students will practice reading and counting with these apple emergent readers. Each page has students add the correct number of apples to each tree as indicated on the page.
What is Included:
- A basic emergent reader with numbers provided.
- A reader with traceable numbers
- A reader with blank spaces for students to write the number
- A reader with number words
By including 4 different readers, teachers are easily able to differentiate for students on different levels of learning numbers. Students can have the number provided, students can trace the number, and students can practice reading number words to complete their beginning counting reader.
There are a variety of ways to complete these readers. They can be used as traditional emergent readers or can be broken apart into counting mats.
Ways to Complete:
- Dot with dot markers
- Dot with cotton swabs
- Use fingers to dot paint
- Use apple mini erasers for counters
- Use red, green and yellow buttons, pompoms or bingo chips as counters
Students will read the sentence they created. Students will practice counting, reading simple sentences and number recognition with these beginning readers.

These emergent readers are low prep. The teacher needs to print out the pages and hand to students. The teacher will need to provide the desired materials for students to complete their book. Students may place the pages in number order or in mixed order.
